Hi, I am type 2 diabetic on tablets to control my sugar levels, my question is after I have now lost over 3 stones do you think that maybe the tablets will need to be readjusted. I am going to see my doctor to talk to him about it but wondered what your thoughts might be on this. My levels last time were classed as within the normal range but that was over 6 months ago and I have now lost a lot of weight. Advice or guidance would help me please.
Losing weight (and the introduction of physical activity) can improve your blood sugar control considerably, but everyone is different and it is impossible to say to what extent, if at all, your medication may need changing. I think you are completely right to go to your GP or diabetes nurse and talk about it, as this is the only way to find out what the situation is. Sometimes people are able to come off their tablets and control their blood sugar through diet alone. On the other hand, despite stirling efforts to lose weight, some people can’t get the control they need with tablets and end up having to inject. There are no guarantees, and keeping an eye on the situation in conjunction with a medical professional is the only way to go.
