Hi I have just joined and am so far very impressed. I have lost weight in the past with Weight Watchers but live abroad now so cannot manage this. I have just made some coronation chicken using low fat mayo and natural yogurt and I was amazed at how much fat was in the low fat version. Is it best to avoid things like mayo?? Thanks
Thanks for your query, and congratulations on doing well so far. As you are discovering, there is mayo, may and mayo! Full fat is as high as 80 per cent fat, reduced fat can be still over 25 per cent fat, and “extra light” is generally below 7 per cent fat. (At least that is the case in the UK; if it isn’t the case where you live, then you need to read labels very carefully to make sure the fat and calories don't rack up). Not all recipes will work with the lowest fat mayo, which is also something to consider. In short, you may be able to include mayo in your diet and get away with it, but it does need careful watching to ensure you enter the right details into your diary. I hope this helps!
