I am currently struggling with my fruit and veg intake because I do not like a wide variety of things. I am just wondering if it's ok for me to eat 3 apples a day? Thanks
Hi, and thanks for your query.
It’s certainly ok for you to have three apples a day, but unfortunately under the government's 5 a day “rules” they don’t count as three separate portions as you need those portions to be different in order to deliver a range of nutrients.
Ideally its good to get a rainbow of different colours too.
That said, it’s obviously better to have three apples than no fruit or veg at all and apples are very good at curbing your appetite. One suggestion is to have one before each meal – it may help to make it easier for you to eat fewer calories!
But the ideal is to get five different types and only double up on apples if you get beyond that.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes
Angela
