Hi I have just purchased a NutriBullet nutrition extractor to help me get my 5-a-day in an easier form. It works like a blender, but you can put the whole fruit, leafy greens and seeds or nuts in together and you get all the nutrients they contain in a variety of very tasty 'smoothies'! It has made me go from 2 or 3 of my 5-a-day to 7 or 8! My question is, does blending fruit, veg, etc alter their calorific value? Thanks
Hi
Thanks for your question.
If you're adding the whole of the fruit, seeds, nuts etc into the blender then there will be no difference in the calorie value in the resulting juice/ smoothie. There may be a slight difference in the speed in which the smoothie is digested and absorbed compared to eating the 'whole' foods but this shouldn't affect the overall calorie content.
Great that it's helping you to get more of your 5 a day in!
Kind regards
Janet
