I've taken Cod Liver Oil, Glaucosamine, & Evening Primrose tablets for years but am still unsure whether they are necessary. I only know that when I came off cod liver oil for a few months the joints in my fingers were aching. Have you any advice having viewed my food diary? Many thanks.

I've had a look through your food diary and can see that you're doing pretty well with getting a wide variety of foods into your diet. That's really great, and it probably means you'll be getting most of the vitamins and minerals that you need through your food.
That said, the supplements that you currently take, are all ones which you don't tend to get much of through the diet. Cod Liver Oil is a highly concentrated form of the oil which, even if you were to have a diet very rich in oily fish, you probably wouldn't get the same level as in a tablet. Cod Liver Oil has been shown to have positive effects on joints, and also for heart health, so if you feel it is doing you good there's no reason to stop taking it. The same goes for glucosamine - this has been proven to have a positive impact on joint health too so if this is something that you have problems with, it can help with pain and stiffness.
Evening Primrose Oil is a herbal supplement so not something you will get from your diet at all. This has been shown to help with hormonal issues such as PMT and the symptoms of the menopause. It can also help to lighten mood, and reduce the incidence of symptoms such as hot flushes or any pain associated with hormonal changes. The only real way to see whether you need to continue with this supplement would be to stop taking it and see if there are any negative impacts. I would advise that you maybe do this gradually - cut down to one every other day to start with, and see how you get on.
Of course, if you have any ill effects from any of these supplements, or you are on other medication, then I would advise having a chat with your GP or practice nurse first to make sure there are no known problems.
