Pamela's story
How much weight have you lost and how long did it take?
I have lost 5st 10lbs80lbs36.3kg in total. It has taken me roughly a year to lose it.
What prompted your decision to lose weight?
I started this weight loss journey as I wasn't happy with how I looked or felt in myself. I was having really bad back problems and, at one point, had to use two walking sticks to get around after putting my back out.
How did you hear about Nutracheck?
I heard about Nutracheck after looking online for a calorie-tracking app. After reading the positive reviews, I downloaded the app.
Has your weight stayed fairly consistent over the years, or have you always had to manage it?
Throughout my adult life, I have been a yo-yo dieter. I know I need to consistently track my calories in the long term, as that's what works for me.
Have you experienced any health improvements?
I feel much fitter and stronger, and have barely had any back problems since I started.
How easy was it to fit the changes you made into your lifestyle?
I have enjoyed the changes made to my lifestyle. I like knowing that the food I’m eating is providing what my body needs to stay healthy, but I do still enjoy a sweet treat. I just try to keep it all well balanced.
What was the most difficult thing about your weight-loss journey?
The thing I have found most difficult is coming out of the calorie deficit for two reasons. The fear that eating more would cause me to gain weight - this took a while to get my head around. Also getting the calories right for maintenance, as my exercise schedule has been full on whilst training for a half-marathon.
How do you feel now compared to before?
I 100% feel more confident and happy with how I look and feel.
Any notable milestones to report?
I am due to run the Edinburgh half marathon in May. Only a few months ago I struggled to walk without feeling out of breath. I really enjoy the lifting class I attend at my local gym twice a week - the support and encouragement has been amazing.
What 3 tips would you give to anyone who has weight to lose?
- If you have a bad day, don't beat yourself up - just start afresh the next day. Consistency is key.
- Believe in yourself.
- Reward yourself with something you like when you get to a goal. Some new clothes, a meal out, or in my case, running trainers.
